Brief Description

We are now looking for a Lead Trainer in Overhead Line Equipment (OLE). This is an exciting opportunity to train and assess our workforce of the future at Swindon Training Centre.

About the role (External)

What does an average day for a Lead Trainer look like? As a Lead Trainer, no two days will ever be the same. You will deliver training and assessments for up to twelve adult learners during each course, supporting them to achieve their learning outcomes and encouraging continuous improvement. You will perform practical simulated exercises as well as classroom-based learning in our state-of-the-art training centres or satellite facilities.

You should ideally have experience in maintenance infrastructure engineering, but applications from those working in safety-critical infrastructure roles are also welcome. Relevant sectors include, but are not limited to, Oil and Gas, Telecoms & Communication, and armed forces.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead the delivery of technical, safety, and behavioural training, assessment, coaching, and mentoring using diverse methods including face-to-face, virtual, and digital solutions. Collaborate with the training planning team to maximise personal utilisation.
  2. Foster a safety-first culture, promoting the 'No-Unsafe-Acts' principle and Network Rail Values. Act as a role model in safety practices and promote safety awareness consistently.
  3. Support the development of apprentices by conducting safeguarding checks, assessing NVQs, task books, and work-based learning, and providing additional technical support sessions.
  4. Ensure an excellent learner experience by making training engaging, motivating, and tailored to individual learning styles and needs.
  5. Possess relevant technical or operational competence, committed to continuous professional development. Achieve NVQ Level 3 in Learning & Development within 18 months and support trainer development within and outside Network Rail.
  6. Develop and enhance training and assessment materials, represent Network Rail Training in capability groups and skills forums, and lead in competence development.
  7. Contribute to continuous improvement of training centre procedures, external inspections, and work instructions, maintaining training assets as needed.
  8. Support and promote company policies, initiatives, and values, demonstrating managerial behaviours.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant technical or operational capabilities
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to influence culture change and motivate others
  • Management skills in development, planning, and achievement

Occasional coverage of other training locations may be required.
