The Northern School of Art has been established for over 150 years. We are the only specialist provider of art and design programmes in the North East. We offer a distinct teaching and learning experience for students wishing to pursue an exciting career in the booming creative industries. Our further education (FE) provision for 16+ year olds is delivered from our Middlesbrough Campus and our higher education (HE) for 18+ year olds is housed within the Hartlepool Campus. Additionally, the school runs a successful “Saturday Club” at its Middlesbrough Campus for people ages 6 to 16 years.
We are seeking a creative individual with strong skills in digital design software and general IT, yet a wider appreciation for all elements of creativity / general art & design. It is imperative you have digital art & design skills in the Adobe Creative Suite. Within this role you will manage a team of dedicated technician demonstrators each with their own specialist skills in varying creative disciplines You will spend a mixture of time in classrooms working with students and staff delivering creative workshops directed in conjunction with academic teams alongside management of the technician support, ensuring smooth operation.
Activities include, but not limited to, tasks such as; ensuring Health and Safety measures are in place, scheduling workshops, procuring materials, preparing resources, tracking the loaning and management of equipment, supporting individual students/staff on an ad hoc basis, advising staff on new technologies / ways of working to support curriculum delivery.
You will have direct input and responsibility for offering a reliable, proactive and ‘can do’ approach to support to the School. There will be varying activities throughout the academic year that require direct involvement from the technician team such as; organising and facilitating bespoke workshop activities, potentially working with feeder schools, supervising students, taking an active role in showcasing student work / exhibitions.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about creativity with a curious approach to new ways of working and suggesting ideas / techniques to overcome problems and obstacles. You will be surrounded and supported by like-minded team of people who work together to provide the best learning experiences for our students.
