Job summary

Dyson is seeking a highly skilled Technical Designer to join the Global Retail Design & Experience team in the UK. You will bridge design, engineering and manufacturing, turning innovative retail concepts into technically robust, scalable solutions while supporting rapid exploration of new ideas, materials and approaches.

You will develop fixtures and physical retail elements, produce detailed drawings and supplier briefs, and review outputs to ensure design intent, cost and feasibility are

Qualifications

• Experience in technical design for retail environments, fixtures or physical product displays.
• Proven track record of taking concepts through to manufactured solutions.
• Experience working closely with suppliers, manufacturers and production teams.
• Balance design ambition with technical and commercial realities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering and manufacturing.
• Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D CAD modelling, including sheet metal parts and assemblies.

About The Role

Dyson isseekinga highly skilled and forward-thinking Technical Designer to play a pivotal role within the Global Retail Design & Experience team. This role sits at the intersection of design,engineeringand manufacturing, ensuring that innovative retail concepts are translated into technically robust, commerciallyviableand scalable solutions.

Working in close partnership with retail designers from the earliest stages of concept creation, the Technical Designerprovidestechnical guidance that helps shape design direction without constraining creativity. The role is critical in enabling rapid exploration ofnew ideas, materials and approaches whilemaintainingfeasibility and performance.

Beyond concept phases, the roleis responsible forthe development of new fixtures and physical retail elements. This includes producing detailed technical drawings,specificationsand supplier briefs, as well as reviewing supplier outputs to ensure design intent ismaintained, solutions are right-sized, and cost and engineering complexity are appropriately controlled.

Working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and external partners, the Technical Designer helps ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across Dyson’s global retail environments.

Key Responsibilities

Early-Stage Concept Support

• Partner closely with retail designers during concept development toprovideproactive technical insight
• Guide design direction through material knowledge, structuralunderstandingand manufacturing considerations
• Enable rapid iteration and exploration byidentifyingviabletechnical pathways early
• Support innovative approaches, newmaterialsand emerging technologies

Detailed Design Development

• Develop concepts into fully resolved technical designs ready for manufacture
• Produce high-quality technical drawings,specificationsand documentation
• Ensure all outputs are clear,accurateand aligned with design intent and brand standards
• Translate creative concepts into scalable and repeatable solutions for global rollout

Supplier Collaboration

• Communicate technical requirements to external suppliers with clarity and precision
• Review supplier proposals,drawingsand samples to ensure alignment with design intent
• Challenge over-engineered solutions andidentifyopportunities to optimise cost and efficiency
• Support decision-making around quality, cost, leadtimeand complexity trade-offs
• Build andmaintaineffective working relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners

Cross-Functional Integration

• Work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and RDD teams to ensure feasibility and smooth delivery
• Align technical design decisions with production capabilities and logistical considerations
• Support problem-solving across design,engineeringand production challenges
• Ensure designs are robust,compliantand suitable for global deployment

Quality, Cost & Performance

• Ensure all technical solutions meet Dyson’s standards for quality,durabilityand performance
• Maintain cost awareness while preserving design intent
• Identifyrisks early and support implementation of practical mitigation strategies
• Contribute to continuous improvement of technical processes and outputs to support speed and efficiency

Planning, Process & Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with Project Managers to understand project timelines andmanageworkload effectively
• Highlight risks and blockers to delivery
• Develop a strong understanding of the Dyson delivery model across both RDD and Marketing

Experience

• Experience in technical design for retail environments,fixturesor physical product displays
• Proventrack recordof taking concepts through to manufactured solutions
• Experience working closely with suppliers,manufacturersand production teams
• Demonstrated ability to balance design ambition with technical and commercial realities
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across design,engineeringand manufacturing
• Proficient in the use ofSolidWorks for3D CAD modelling, including sheet metal parts, assemblycreationand technical drawing production
