Salary: £90,440 - £140,040 (depending on location)
Location: London, Bristol or Edinburgh
Hours: Full time
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site

This role is critical to ensuring we develop and integrate our systems in line with excellent engineering standards to meet our business needs and improve our colleagues' relationship management journeys for clients. As a subject matter expert, you'll collaborate with multi-functional teams to provide guidance and support in building and growing a team of highly skilled engineers.

What you’ll do

Lead and mentor a multi-skilled team to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions to support business goals.

Represent the specialist function in high-level meetings and decision-making processes

Oversee resource planning and allocation for the specialist function

Develop and implement policies and procedures for the specialist area

Lead strategic negotiations with key stakeholders and vendors

Collaborate with feature teams and third parties to identify and implement creative solutions that align with business objectives.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior architects and developers, leading by example with hands-on coding and problem-solving.

Monitor and report on project progress, addressing any issues promptly to ensure timely delivery. Identify and mitigate risks to ensure the successful implementation of projects.

Develop and document processes to improve engineering efficiency and service quality.

Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, fostering an environment of learning and growth within the team.

Supervise the maintenance and enhancement of service infrastructure, ensuring its reliability and efficiency.

Management of Third Party Suppliers to ensure solutions are performant, secure and resilient, and meet bank objectives and client needs.

Ensure that all engineering activities comply with industry standards and regulations.

What you’ll need

Software Engineering - Possess a deep understanding of the software lifecycle, ensuring high standards in design, development, testing, and deployment.

Operational optimisation – Demonstrable experience of optimising Run operations for highly available systems, including control automation, end to end system monitoring and observability

Service Sustainability & Incident Resolution - demonstrable experience of incident resolution, and root cause identification.

Technology leadership - Capable of defining and maintaining engineering standards, aligning solutions with business objectives and architectural principles.

Technology delivery - Provide technology leadership across technical components and complex cross-cutting deliveries spanning multiple platforms and business units.

Experience of DevOps Pipeline optimisation

Familiarity with the concept of automated testing and process automation

Significant experience in delivering technical solutions in an Agile environment.
