Responsible for: Early Years Educators and LSAs
Main Purpose
The role involves:
- Fulfilling the professional responsibilities of an Early Years teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and the EYFS Statutory Framework.
- Meeting the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards.
- Fulfilling the responsibilities of SENCo, as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (2014), within the nursery.
- Carrying out duties as reasonably directed by the Headteacher, in accordance with the current ‘School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document’ and the Professional Standards for Teachers (TDA), relevant to the post holder’s QTS, Core, or Post-Threshold levels.
The teacher, under the direction of the Head of School, will take lead responsibility for the ARP at our Nursery School to ensure:
- High-quality care and education for children in the ARP, in partnership with parents or carers.
- Improved standards of learning and achievement for all children.
- Planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting are individualized around the strengths and needs of learners in the ARP and monitored for impact.
- Effective use of resources to support regulation and provide rich learning opportunities.
- High-quality enrichment experiences for all children.
- Strong community support and partnerships with families.
Qualifications and Training
- Degree
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Desirable: QTS with early years specialism
- SENCo qualification or willingness to work towards it
Experience
- Successful experience in teaching in an ARP and leading a team supporting children with SEND.
- Experience teaching children with autism.
- Early years teaching experience.
- Working in partnership with parents and carers.
- Collaborating with professionals, including therapists.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of current theories, research, and good practices in early years learning and SEND provision.
- Understanding of research around autism and other SEND.
- Awareness of developmental, learning, and cultural needs of young children.
- Understanding of early childhood curriculum standards.
- Expertise in teaching strategies for early years and SEND, including adapting teaching to meet diverse needs.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the EYFS statutory framework, SEND Code of Practice, and relevant legislation.
- Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate an enabling environment for children with SEND.
- Skills in observing, interpreting behaviour, identifying learning needs, and planning appropriate next steps.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and handle challenging situations calmly and sensitively.
- Commitment to working in partnership with parents and carers.
