Job Description:Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Systems Engineer to take on the role of Design Authority for the delivery of a SATCOM communications subsystem.This role is within the Comms & Force Protection (C&FP) business group and will focus on delivering a complex system involving antennas, RF and digital electronics, firmware, and software.About the RoleAs Lead Systems Engineer you will work alongside the Systems Design Authority as the Design Authority & Company Technical Signatory for the required products. The Design Authority will need to be a talented and experienced engineer, familiar with working on complex RF electronic sensor systems.
Key responsibilities include:- Represent (supported by Subject Matter Experts) the company when engaging with customers to define the technical solution.
- Maintain independent product assurance through Design Reviews and ensuring company procedures are adhered to.
- Meet technical requirements through all phases of design and integration.
- Develop test plans, specifications, and procedures and oversee testing activities.
- Responsible for delivered product design, compliance, safety and integrity.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplined project team in close partnership with key stakeholders.
- Lead, guide, and mentor the multi-disciplinary team.
- Liaise and cooperate with the Project Managers, Project Engineering Managers/Leads and other Design Authorities to resolve technical, project, or resource conflicts.
About YouYou will have proven experience as a Design Authority (or role with similar responsibilities), with the following attributes:
- Degree qualification in Engineering, Maths, or Science subject or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience and good technical understanding of antennas and RF based sensor systems, ideally within the SATCOM domain.
- Experience of design lifecycle; design, development, testing, integration, and acceptance.
- The ability to analyze and specify system requirements.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercially aware.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
The following experience/skills are very desirable:- Experience of working in the defense electronics sector, ideally with airborne sensor systems.
- Experience of working with UK MOD (e.g. RAF, DSTL, DE&S)
- An understanding of the deployment of airborne military platforms, systems and operation within the enterprise environment.
- An understanding of radar-guided surface-to-air missile systems, and other radar-based threats.
- Chartered Engineer status, or a member of a professional engineering institution.
