GLL is currently looking for Lead Swimming Teachers based at East Manchester Leisure Centre. Join us as a Lead Swimming Teacher and play a key role in developing both our customers' swimming skills and the skills of your team of teachers. This is your chance to deliver safe, consistent swimming lessons that give people real confidence in the water – and an invaluable life skill.
Primarily, the weekly hours required for this role are as follows:
- Friday: 15:15 - 19:45 (4.5 hours)
- Saturday: 8:00 - 14:45 (6.75 hours)
- Sunday: 8:00 - 14:00 (6 hours)
Total: 17.25 hours per week.
As an experienced swimming teacher, you’ll thrive on supporting people to achieve their potential, taking into account their nature and needs. A Lead Swimming Teacher will draw on their knowledge of practices, progression, and teaching points, applying it effectively while supporting and guiding your team of teachers. There will be some administration involved, but most of your time will be spent teaching and leading your team to success.
We’re looking for Lead Swimming Teachers who are approachable, friendly, and patient, with the ability to build trust, motivate pupils, and encourage with praise. You’ll need to be STA Certificate Level 2 or Swim England Level 2 qualified, and ideally have the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches. Knowledge of health and safety legislation, and understanding of Child Protection Policy, will also be vital.
What you will do:
- Maintain a positive image of the Centre by providing welcoming, helpful, and professional poolside service.
- Ensure the safety and control of pupils during lessons, complying with all relevant regulations.
- Follow the Safeguarding Policy, Behaviour Policy, and other relevant procedures.
- Lead and motivate a team of teachers to deliver lessons in line with the product manual, ensuring consistency across the centre.
- Coordinate and oversee team teaching, including managing registers, grouping swimmers, and ratios.
- Mentor and develop team members, providing constructive feedback. Attendance at teacher meetings and training is required.
- Monitor pupil attendance and progress, updating records to help pupils achieve relevant awards.
- Assist with enrolments and re-enrolments as required by the General Manager.
- Encourage pupils to enroll in further and short courses.
