Job description

GLL is currently looking for Lead Swimming Teachers based at The Waltham Forest Feel Good Centre for 31 hours. Join us as a Lead Swimming Teacher and play a key role in developing both our customers' swimming skills and the skills of your team of teachers. This is your chance to deliver safe, consistent swimming lessons that give people real confidence in the water – and an invaluable life skill.

As an experienced swimming teacher, you’ll thrive on supporting people to achieve their potential, taking into account each pupil’s nature and needs. A Lead Swimming Teacher will draw on their knowledge of practices, progression, and teaching points, applying it effectively while supporting and guiding your team of teachers. There’ll be some administration involved, but almost all your time will be spent doing what you do best: teaching people to become stronger swimmers and leading your team to success.

We’re looking for Lead Swimming Teachers who are approachable, friendly, patient, and capable of building trust, motivating pupils, and encouraging progress with praise. You’ll need to be STA Certificate level or Swim England Level 2 qualified, and ideally have the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches. Knowledge of health and safety legislation, child protection policies, and relevant legislation is essential.

What you will do:

1. Maintain a positive and welcoming image of the Centre by providing professional poolside service.
2. Ensure the safety and control of pupils during lessons, complying with all relevant regulations.
3. Follow the Safeguarding Policy, Behaviour policy, and other procedures outlined within the Swim School product.
4. Lead and motivate a team of teachers to deliver lessons in line with the product manual, ensuring consistency across the centre.
5. Coordinate team teaching, manage registers, group swimmers, and oversee ratios during shifts.
6. Mentor and develop your team, providing constructive feedback, and participate in teacher meetings and training.
7. Monitor pupil attendance and progress, updating records to support achievement of relevant awards.
8. Assist with enrolments and re-enrolments as needed.
9. Encourage pupils to enroll in further or short courses.
