Job Description:

This appointment will be instrumental in the development of a new service line (Measured Digital Surveys) for Thomas & Adamson. As such, this is a great opportunity for an ambitious and motivated professional in the surveying market to join the business.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Surveyor to spearhead the development of a new department focusing on deploying advanced survey technologies, including laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surveying, with experience in business development, proposal/bid writing, and contract management.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Department Development:
    • Lead the establishment and growth of the new survey department.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans for the department.
    • Oversee the acquisition/leasing and maintenance of survey equipment and technology.
  2. Survey Operations:
    • Manage and execute laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys.
    • Ensure all surveys are conducted to the highest standards of accuracy and quality, with experience and ability to deliver outputs to LOD 200 – 500.
    • Analyse and interpret survey data to produce detailed reports and deliverables.
  3. Business Development and Proposal and Bid Writing:
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the surveying sector.
    • Liaise with internal colleagues to identify cross-selling opportunities from internal departments (both within T&A and the wider Egis group).
    • Prepare and submit detailed proposals and bids for survey projects.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and presentations.
  4. Contract Management:
    • Negotiate and manage contracts with clients and subcontractors/suppliers.
    • Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and industry regulations.
    • Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure successful project delivery.
  5. Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, train, and mentor a team of surveyors and support staff, as the department grows.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, PLS) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in surveying, with a focus on laser and drone surveys.
  • Proven experience in business development, proposal writing, and contract management.
  • Strong technical skills in survey software and equipment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
