Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR is seeking a recognised Technical Authority for Structural Integrity. You will lead the SI elements of the safety case, govern SI across the business, and drive robust requirements for pressure boundary components.

This pivotal role supports delivery of the GDA programme and other critical milestones in the UK’s nuclear programme. You will mentor engineers, engage regulators, and collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing and quality teams to ensure safe and compliant

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND or equivalent in Mechanical or Materials Eng or related discipline.
  • Active progress towards or attainment of professional registration.
  • Significant Structural Integrity experience in nuclear or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of pressure boundary components and related systems.
  • Knowledge of structural integrity disciplines including design, stress analysis, materials, manufacturing, quality and NDE.
  • Experience developing, presenting and defending safety cases with regulators.

Job description

Location

Hybrid working with flexibility to be based from any Rolls‑Royce SMR office location. Regular travel to Derby, Warrington and Manchester may be required.

Role

This is a rare opportunity to become the recognised technical authority for Structural Integrity within one of the UK’s most exciting nuclear programmes. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Component & Structural Integrity Integration, you will provide strategic technical leadership, ensuring robust structural integrity requirements are established and implemented across pressure boundary components.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Structural Integrity elements of the nuclear safety case and support key regulatory submissions and assessments.
  • Act as the technical authority for Structural Integrity, providing governance and expert guidance across the business.
  • Support successful delivery of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) programme and other critical engineering milestones.
  • Define and embed Structural Integrity requirements across pressure boundary components including pressure vessels, piping and valves.
  • Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing, quality and NDE teams to ensure safe, compliant and efficient engineering solutions.
  • Engage with regulators, external partners and suppliers, representing Rolls‑Royce SMR on Structural Integrity matters.
  • Mentor and influence engineers and specialists, helping to strengthen capability and promote a positive nuclear safety culture.
Qualifications
  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Active progress towards, or attainment of, professional registration with a recognised engineering institution.
  • Significant Structural Integrity experience within the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of pressure boundary components, including pressure vessels, piping systems and valves.
  • Knowledge of Structural Integrity disciplines including design, stress analysis, materials, manufacturing, quality and non‑destructive examination.
  • Experience developing, presenting and defending safety cases and engaging with regulatory bodies.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section III and relevant industry standards, combined with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: £63,600.00 – £83,500.00 DOE.

  • Bonus – Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
