Job summary

SII UK in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to own the design, development, and delivery of advanced engineering software solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical excellence with team guidance.

You will drive software architecture, mentor developers, work with Product Owners, and ensure quality through testing and documentation across the full SDLC.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development skills.
• Experience leading software development teams and technical projects.
• Strong understanding of Agile Scrum methodologies.
• Experience working closely with Product Owners, or acting in a Product Owner capacity.
• Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and modern development practices.
• Experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL database technologies.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Knowledge of testing frameworks and software quality assurance practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and best engineering practices.
• Remain actively involved in the hands‑on design, development, testing, and deployment of engineering software applications.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Support Agile Scrum delivery processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Contribute to product roadmap discussions and help prioritise development activities.
• Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and robust software architectures.
• Ensure software quality through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including system designs, architecture documentation, user guides, and development standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated technical solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement in software engineering methodologies, tools, and development practices.
