Job summary

Monex is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Product) in the UK to shape and deliver the technology strategy for Monex International, guiding custom development of proprietary platforms and future innovations that simplify global payments and FX risk management.

You will lead a technology organization, drive cloud-native, microservices-based architectures, and mentor a global engineering team while partnering with Product to align roadmaps with business objectives and OKRs.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years in product engineering, 3–5 years in financial services.
• Lead engineering manager on a modern custom financial services product (e.g. a core platform).
• Experience in a regulated investment firm or strong equivalent knowledge in a Financial Services firm.
• Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment for FX firms.
• Understanding of risk management and compliance in a regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of FX and derivatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for platforms to deliver corporate payments, API modernization, cloud, and real-time payment initiatives.
• Partner with business and delivery teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions.
• Act as a trusted technology advisor to clients and internal leadership.
• Hire, develop, mentor and retain top engineering talent and work with partners to build a high-performance global team.
• Align delivery roadmap to strategy/OKRs, ensuring predictable delivery and outcomes.
• Drive adoption of modern architectures (microservices, event-driven systems) and cloud-native technologies.
• Institutionalise modern engineering practices and drive metrics-led improvement using DORA + cost-to-serve.
• Own CI/CD strategy and implement test automation at all levels.
• Embed DevSecOps and SRE practices across the Engineering team: SLOs/SLIs, incident management, post-mortems, capacity & resiliency engineering.
• Ensure compliance with data and IT security and country-specific regulations.
• Stakeholder communications to ExCo level.
• Security & Compliance: embed design principles and ensure regulatory compliance (MiFID II, PSD2, GDPR).
• Align engineering processes and technology stacks across merged entities for efficiency and scalability.
