Job description

Lead Software Engineer- Platform (Connectivity/Networking) - Chase UK

Job Description

We know that people want great value combined with an excellent experience from a bank they can trust, so we launched our digital bank, Chase UK, to revolutionise mobile banking with seamless journeys that our customers love. We're already trusted by millions in the US and we're quickly catching up in the UK - but how we do things here is a little different. We're building the bank of the future from scratch, channelling our start-up mentality every step of the way - meaning you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the International Consumer Bank, Chase UK, you will be joining our Cloud Platform Engineering tribe, which is at the heart of a cutting-edge cloud-native AWS infrastructure that powers the Chase UK bank trusted by over 2 million customers. You will be exposed to a wide spectrum of technologies such as Kubernetes clusters, connectivity, databases, Kafka clusters, and numerous opportunities to create automations to eliminate toil and improve developer experience.

We're looking for people who have a curious mindset, thrive in collaborative squads, and are passionate about new technology. Our people are solution-oriented, commercially savvy, and have a head for fintech. We work in tribes and squads focused on specific products and projects, with opportunities to move among squads based on your strengths and interests.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve our AWS cloud infrastructure to ensure the bank's 24/7 operation focusing on stability, performance, security, and compliance.
  • Maintain and improve stability, security, and performance of connectivity for our customers, between AWS accounts, and between Chase and third parties.
  • Design and create automation scripts and tooling using languages such as Bash, Python, or Go.
  • Support and develop a cloud platform for application developers to enhance their SDLC and developer experience.
  • Manage and coordinate with vendors and other business areas to plan improvements and projects.
  • Participate in on-call rotations.

Required Skills

  • Experience managing public cloud infrastructure with infra-as-code tools like Terraform on AWS.
  • Strong knowledge and operational experience with at least one CDN provider (e.g., Akamai, CloudFlare).
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize network performance.
  • Understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, and VPN.
  • Experience configuring and managing reverse proxies (e.g., Traefik, NGINX, HAProxy).
  • Good knowledge of Kubernetes operations (preferably EKS).
  • Proficiency in programming with modern languages (Java, Python, Go).
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and SDLC best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of software security best practices in cloud environments.
  • Experience developing software tests (unit, integration, end-to-end).

We are committed to diversity and inclusion and are an equal opportunity employer.
