Job summary

Kraken in London is seeking a Senior Software Engineer or above to lead a talented team responsible for backend systems and the UK client support site. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and contribute hands-on code in Python and Django to deliver robust, scalable software for the energy industry.

You will model domain concepts, design RESTful APIs, and work with Celery and PostgreSQL, while partnering with UK market teams to prioritize work and improve the energy platforms

Qualifications

• Strong Python/Django web development experience on full-stack projects
• Ability to model domain concepts and absorb complex industry details
• Experience building HTTP/REST APIs and robust fault-tolerant software
• Experience leading a engineering team and code reviews
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL and Celery for async processing

Customer Lifecycle makes sure the right customer, account, property, product, contract, and operational actions stay connected as the customer’s relationship with the energy provider changes. Commercials generally handles choosing and pricing the product; Customer Lifecycle takes over once the customer’s intent needs to become an active account, journey, or contract in Kraken.

What you’ll own

• You’ll be responsible for leading a team of engineers, making decisions on how the team operates and setting the technical direction of the team.
• This role will involve line management duties, as well as being hands on and close to the code.
• You’ll be responsible for ensuring the quality of the code being delivered through thoughtful code review.
• Your team will be building and maintaining the backend systems and support site for UK-based clients to support their electricity and gas operations.
• You will gain a deep understanding of the inner workings of how the UK energy market operates and help shape our systems to improve them for our clients with a product mindset.
• Work with other market teams, primarily the UK market teams to support their operations.
• Work with client delivery to help prioritize, deliver and maintain work required by clients.
• Be responsible for monitoring and alerting of production systems and where required, lead and manage incidents.

What you bring to the party

• We’re looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful
• Your level will be Senior Software Engineer or above and we expect you to have experience/expertise in the following (in rough priority order):
• Python and Django (or equivalent web framework) web development experience, as you will be asked to work on some full-stack projects
• Domain modelling, and ability to quickly absorb information about a complex industry
• HTTP and REST APIs
• Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
• Celery and async processing
• Postgres
• Experience being a technical leader in a team
