Job Summary

Are you an experienced Lead Software Engineer looking to advance your career? Do you excel at leading and mentoring engineering teams, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of development? Are you interested in shaping the future services within DWP Digital? You will lead and help reshape an existing engineering capability, comprising DWP and Supplier Engineers, and play a key role in directing future technology solutions that support our mission. The role involves problem-solving, delivering innovative technology, and advancing engineering practices, especially in microservices and event-based architectures. Regular travel to digital hubs may be required.

Job Description

Our Lead Software Engineers are experts, role models, and experienced in software design, development, and support. Responsibilities include:

  1. Defining standards for the Engineering community and leading their adoption.
  2. Establishing frameworks, tools, and processes for responsible development, deployment, and monitoring.
  3. Enabling multiple teams, driving consistency, standards, and quality, and promoting collaboration.
  4. Influencing our delivery vision as part of the Leadership Team.
  5. Self-organizing and prioritizing effectively.
  6. Leading and setting direction for multiple engineering teams.
  7. Promoting best practices and standards across DWP Digital and wider government.
  8. Developing a culture of high performance and continuous investment in skills.
Person Specification

Benefits include flexible working, generous leave, health and wellbeing support, family policies, funded learning, and an inclusive environment. The role may support hybrid working arrangements. Salary range: £72,664 to £89,995, with a potential Digital Allowance of up to £12,255.

Selection Process

Stage 1: Application, including employment history and a personal statement demonstrating experience with open-source tech, cloud environments, databases, testing, APIs, and microservices. The initial sift assesses your lead criterion. Stage 2: Interview via Microsoft Teams, including a presentation. Further details will be provided.
