Atlassian Williams F1 Team in Grove, United Kingdom is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Performance Technology group. You will lead a team of engineers across real-time data systems, simulations, and analysis tools, while remaining hands-on in design and coding.

You will shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and coordinate with performance functions to deliver high-performance software across a broad stack including C++, Rust, Python, and modern cloud-native platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience, with senior/lead exposure.
• Strong architectural knowledge across distributed systems and real-time streaming technologies.
• Familiarity with functional programming (F#) is desirable.
• End-to-end ownership of scalable, maintainable systems; hands-on coding.
• Experience with modern DevOps: CI/CD, containerisation, IaC.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of the team, including architecture choices and quality standards.
• Mentor engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and feedback.
• Manage technical dependencies and risks across concurrent projects.
• Act as the bridge between engineering and performance functions to deliver software solutions.
• Contribute to technology strategy across Performance Technology and the wider group.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a team of engineers building bespoke, high-performance software that directly supports our Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, and Vehicle Performance functions. At Williams, software and data are central to our mission of advancing up the grid, and this role puts you at the heart of both.The RoleYou'll lead a team of 3–5 engineers, taking ownership of technical direction, architecture, and delivery across a diverse and sophisticated software estate. From real-time data systems and state-of-the-art simulations to bespoke analysis tools and cloud-native modernisation, the problems you'll solve are genuinely complex and genuinely consequential. You'll remain hands-on, contributing directly to design and code while setting the technical standard for those around you.Our stack is deliberately broad: desktop applications in C++ and C#, web applications in React/TypeScript, Python-based analysis tools, and backend services in C++, Rust, F#, and C#.
