Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Kafka, and relational databases.
  • Experience developing MS Outlook add-ins (Office.js) and integrations with Microsoft 365.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, Gradle, CI/CD, and cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support Outlook add-ins using Office.js and Microsoft 365 integrations.

Job description

We're seeking someone to join our Client Relationship Management Technology team in Glasgow as a VP in Advisory, Sales & Distribution within Institutional Securities Technology to design, develop, and support enterprise-scale CRM and analytics solutions, collaborating closely with global teams across India, London, and New York. In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineer position at Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs. What you'll do:
  • Communicate regularly with product leads across the technology organization and discuss opportunities for improvement to existing and future technology solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Develop, enhance, and support Microsoft Outlook add-ins leveraging Office.js and related Microsoft 365 technologies.
  • Build and maintain event-driven architectures using Microsoft Azure Event Hub and Kafka.
  • Design and optimize database schemas and data access layers for scalability and performance.
  • Ensure application reliability, security, performance, and responsiveness.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Scope, estimate, plan, execute, and track project deliverables.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and proactively identify opportunities to improve the technology platform.
What you'll bring to the role:
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple functions or guide junior staff and initiatives.
  • Advanced understanding of business line and discipline with some knowledge of competitive environment and other disciplines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Kafka, and relational databases.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining Microsoft Outlook add-ins (Office.js, Microsoft 365 integrations, Outlook APIs).
  • Experience building event-driven and messaging solutions using Microsoft Azure Event Hub and/or Kafka.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, build automation tools (Gradle), and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong database experience with RDBMS technologies (Sybase, DB2, PostgreSQL, etc.) and exposure to NoSQL platforms (ElasticSearch, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across global teams.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, innovation, and adaptability in adopting new technologies.
  • At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
