Capital One (Europe) plc in Nottingham is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer to enhance Developer Experience. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering and community advocacy, gathering feedback from UK Tech and sharing best practices across the business.

You will lead with strong coding skills (Java, TypeScript, or Python), cloud expertise (AWS or similar), and experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code to accelerate delivery and reduce engineering friction.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java, TypeScript, or Python with strong coding skills.
• Experience with AWS or alternative cloud platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code for deployment and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Communicate as a Developer Advocate, talking to customers, sharing ideas, teaching and leading among peers.
• Lead as a technical leader, driving delivery of complex and ambiguous projects.
• Influence platform-owning teams to support prioritisation and inner-sourcing with US teams.
• Improve every developer's experience and find solutions beyond the IDE to deliver value.
• Demonstrate an analytical mindset focused on value for the organisation and customers.
• Enjoy hybrid work with three in-office days (Tue–Thu).

Job Title: Lead Software Engineer - Developer Experience

Location: Nottingham - Hybrid

Working Pattern: 3 days in-office (Tuesday-Thursday) and 2 days remote.

You and the Role

In this role, you aren't just writing code or managing infrastructure; you are a force-multiplier for our engineering teams. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering and community advocacy, gathering feedback from our UK Tech organisation and sharing good engineering practices across the business. You’ll be joining a passionate and diverse team on a mission to reduce engineering frustration and accelerate software delivery.

• Java, TypeScriptor Python using strong programming skills in one or more languages to deliver core engineering features.

• AWS or alternative cloud platforms, to enhance our deployment and validation mechanisms.

• CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, continuing the support, maintenance, and development of our core systems.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.

We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days.
