Job summary

Capital One UK in Nottingham is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer for Developer Experience to shape engineering practices and accelerate delivery. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering and community advocacy, gathering feedback from the UK Tech organisation and sharing good engineering practices across the business.

This hybrid role offers three days in the office (Tue-Thu) with two days remote, plus an on-site gym, restaurant and Learning Loft at the Nottingham

Qualifications

• Excellent problem solvers with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
• Strong programming skills in Java, TypeScript or Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or alternatives).
• Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.

Responsibilities

• Gather feedback from UK Tech organisation and share engineering best practices.
• Act as a Developer Advocate and lead amongst peers.
• Drive delivery of complex and ambiguous projects.
• Build relationships with platform-owning teams to prioritise and inner-source opportunities.
• Improve developers' experience beyond the IDE with efficient solutions.

In this role, you aren't just writing code or managing infrastructure; you are a force-multiplier for our engineering teams. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering and community advocacy, gathering feedback from our UK Tech organisation and sharing good engineering practices across the business. You’ll be joining a passionate and diverse team on a mission to reduce engineering frustration and accelerate software delivery.

We are primarily looking for excellent problem solvers with a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

• Java, TypeScript or Python using strong programming skills in one or more languages to deliver core engineering features.
• AWS or alternative cloud platforms, to enhance our deployment and validation mechanisms.
• CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, continuing the support, maintenance, and development of our core systems.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.

We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days.
