The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Structures Engineer to join our Amey Consulting Structures team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen, with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn, and Huntly.

Our Amey Consulting Structures Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values exceeding £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. We also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.

These long-term contracts offer excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional growth at all career stages, involving some of Scotland’s most exciting engineering projects.

The Role

Our Lead Senior Engineers are key members of the Design team, working closely with Transport Scotland. You will support your Design Team Leader on civil schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.

Responsibilities Include

• Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions that meet all standards and client requirements.
• Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timeliness.
• Overseeing junior staff, guiding their work, and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Managing project budgets and controlling costs to ensure commercial success.
• Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
• Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
• Promoting effective health and safety practices within the team.

What You Will Bring To Us

• Experience and expertise in relevant technical fields, likely gained in a Senior Engineer role or similar.
• The ability to produce and review high-standard engineering solutions independently and supervise others.
• Experience with health, safety, and welfare management, including CDM regulations.
• Ability to act as the main engineering contact on projects.
• Knowledge of design and specification processes and ability to advise others.
• Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools.
• Strong understanding of CDM and risk assessment, with experience in hazard and risk management.
• Leadership and people management skills, capable of managing a medium-sized technical team.
• Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent is desirable, possibly essential for certain contracts.
