Job summary

Amey Ltd. invites applications for a permanent Lead Senior Engineer in Consulting Structures, based in York/Sheffield/Newcastle. You will lead the design team, mentor junior designers, and drive technically sound solutions for road schemes while coordinating with clients and suppliers.

The role requires ownership of deliverables, strong structural knowledge, and experience with relevant software; a Chartered professional licence is preferred. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Lead Senior Engineer or equivalent in bridges/civil structures.
• Solid understanding of structural engineering principles.
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound designs meeting client standards.
• Ownership for preparation and checking of deliverables.
• Knowledge of software/tools for analysis and design (Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk SBD).
• Experience managing health and safety risks in projects.
• Collaborative, proactive problem solving in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Chartered status or equivalent professional licence.
• Bachelor/Master degree in a relevant subject.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and scheme deliverables.
• Oversee junior designers and mentor them on tasks.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Engineer to join our Consulting Structures team to join our strucutres team based in York/Sheffield/Newcastle.

The role

Our Lead Senior Engineers play an important part within the Design team. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of road schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.

Responsibilities include:

• To lead a team to product technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
• The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
• Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
• Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Experience and expertise in bridges and / or civil structures, gained in an Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
• Sound understanding of structural engineering principles.
• Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and Client’s requirements.
• Ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables
• Knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (eg Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Experience in effectively managing HS&W risks.
• Collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving with experience in a multi-disciplinary team
• Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
• Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject or equivalent further learning.
