Founded in 2018, Taxually has grown nearly 300% year on year, and now works with over 12,000 customers in more than 60 countries. We have built, and continue to build, the most advanced technology within the tax sector, which has resulted in numerous members of the Fortune 500 adopting our solutions and strong Private Equity backing.

We have a dedicated, hard working, growing team - the type of person who works here is driven, motivated, empowered and forward thinking. We want people to challenge, to bring new ideas and to add to the growth of Taxually.

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Security Engineer to enhance our global security posture and ensure regulatory compliance across our AWS and Azure cloud environments. This role involves managing security frameworks, maintaining compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, ISO9001, ISO 27001, and other relevant standards, while implementing security best practices to protect our infrastructure, applications, and data.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security governance, risk management, cloud security, incident response, vulnerability management, penetration testing, and leading business continuity and disaster recovery tests. You will drive continuous compliance with various security frameworks and collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to maintain a robust security foundation in a rapidly evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

Security & Compliance Management
  1. Lead and maintain compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 27001, and ISO 9001 by implementing, managing, and improving security controls, policies, and processes, while addressing any compliance gaps to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and best practices.
  2. Manage all daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance tasks to ensure regulatory and audit readiness.
  3. Oversee internal and external security audits, ensuring continuous adherence to industry standards.
  4. Collaborate with third-party auditors and regulatory bodies for assessments and certification renewals.
  5. Ensure data protection and privacy controls align with regulatory requirements, continuously updating measures to safeguard sensitive information and maintain compliance.

Cloud Security, Risk & Vulnerability Management
  1. Ensure AWS and Azure security best practices are implemented across infrastructure, including IAM, networking, logging, and encryption.
  2. Conduct regular security risk assessments and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to evaluate potential vulnerabilities.
  3. Oversee security patching and vulnerability management across AWS and Azure environments to ensure timely remediation of security threats.
  4. Monitor cloud security posture and recommend remediation strategies to reduce attack surfaces.
  5. Enforce CIS benchmarks, OWASP security principles, and NIST cybersecurity controls across cloud and application security to ensure a robust and comprehensive security posture.
  6. Oversee third-party security assessments to ensure vendors meet compliance and security expectations.

Incident Response, BC/DR & Penetration Testing
  1. Lead Incident Response (IR) planning, testing, and execution, ensuring swift containment and remediation of security threats.
  2. Develop and maintain Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) plans, ensuring high availability and minimal disruption.
  3. Oversee web application penetration testing, collaborating with security teams to identify and remediate vulnerabilities.
  4. Drive continuous security improvements based on penetration testing results and security incident learnings.

Policy & Control Enforcement
  1. Define, review, and update security policies, standards, and controls based on industry best practices.
  2. Ensure security requirements are embedded in development, operations, and business processes.
  3. Conduct security awareness and training programs to promote a security-first culture across the organization.
  4. Monitor and enforce compliance with security policies across all teams and departments.

Working environment
  1. Fast-paced environment supporting critical tax and financial services applications.
  2. Hybrid role combining hands-on technical work with team leadership.
  3. Collaboration with multiple departments and stakeholders.
  4. Focus on continuous improvement and service excellence.

What you can count on

We're expecting (and happy) to work out a package for you that benefits us mutually. These are some of the constants that you can expect from us in that regard:
  1. A competitive compensation package.
  2. A fully remote-first company (EU time zones preferred). We have people working in Hungary, the UK, Germany, Austria, Romania, China, Argentina and more. We have a physical space in a beautiful central location in Budapest, Hungary.
  3. Generous programme to outfit your home office. Option for a co-working space stipend in certain cases.
  4. A great company to work at, and an early place in a fast growing, highly profitable scaleup.

Don't meet all of the role requirements?

Don't worry! We care about outcomes rather than tickbox criteria, and it's often the case that the perfect person for the role has a CV that looks a little different.

Research (by Harvard University) shows that women are particularly likely to second-guess themselves and not apply - so if you're worried you don't meet all the criteria, get in touch anyhow and let us do the worrying.

At Taxually, we are committed to building a company that includes people from a variety of different backgrounds. We're particularly interested in hearing from people from typically underrepresented groups in the tech industry.
