The Role

As a lead SDET for this communications scale-up, you will be focused on leading a small, highly focused team responsible for this business's robust enterprise systems. You will work with appropriate stakeholders to ensure testing strategies and processes are applied. You will continue to improve the business's automation frameworks and coverage while mentoring a talented team of more junior test professionals. You will guide and participate hands-on in the team's testing efforts to ensure successful delivery.

  • Manage performance assessments and hiring for a small team of SDETs
  • Drive the team’s testing and automation strategies
  • Define and organize the team’s test planning for releases
  • Design and code automation frameworks, tests, and tools
  • Participate in team planning and story grooming
  • Participate in test execution, issue identification, and resolution in support of releases

Responsibilities for process improvements:

  • Propose and implement improvements to automation and test processes
  • Develop and maintain shared testing libraries
  • Provide training, mentorship, and support to team members
  • Conduct code reviews and maintain quality of automation code
  • Document automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure

About You

As a lead SDET for this high-growth AI scale-up, you will have a variety of skills that will enable you to succeed in the role. Don’t worry if you don’t hit all of them; you can definitely learn:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in test development
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading a small team
  • Strong understanding of Java and object-oriented principles
  • Experience applying test practices in an agile environment
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit
  • Experience testing backend systems or APIs

Bonus Points for the following:

  • Experience with web services technologies such as REST, JSON, or Thrift
  • Testing web applications with Selenium WebDriver
  • Big data technologies such as Hadoop, MongoDB, Kafka, or SQL
  • Understanding of network principles and protocols like HTTP, TLS, TCP
  • Experience with continuous integration systems such as Jenkins or Bamboo
  • Knowledge of continuous delivery concepts
