Job summary

AstraZeneca Macclesfield is seeking an Associate Principal Scientist – Tides Downstream Processing Expert. You will set scientific direction for downstream development, lead matrix teams, and personally deliver laboratory and in silico studies to advance peptides, oligonucleotides and related technologies.

You will guide scalable strategies for downstream stages, coordinate global cleavage, chromatography, concentration and drying processes, and apply PAT, automation and digital tools to improve

Qualifications

• Degree, PhD or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field.
• Industrial experience in pharmaceutical or related process development.
• Experience in scale‑up, transfer and manufacture delivery.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for downstream process development from lab to manufacturing.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams delivering process and technology work packages.
• Design and interpret studies to generate process understanding and improve processes.
• Identify and implement innovative downstream technologies to boost robustness and cost efficiency.
• Develop understanding of peptide impurity profiles and process performance.
• Apply modelling, PAT, automation and digital approaches to development and control.
• Lead or support scale‑up, transfer and manufacturing activities at facilities.
• Collaborate with external partners to accelerate development.
• Mentor colleagues and build organizational capability.
• Communicate data and recommendations clearly for timely decisions.
