Lead Scientist (Characterisation), Slough

Lonza, a global leader in life sciences, is seeking an ambitious Lead Scientist with expertise in protein characterisation methods (e.g., RP, SEC, icIEF) and LC‑MS/MS for analyzing protein structures, variants, and PTMs. Based in Slough, UK, this role involves planning and executing analytical testing on therapeutic proteins to support product characterisation and biocomparability, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Leading complex projects and providing scientific leadership to junior team members.
2. Engaging with external customers to demonstrate scientific credibility and build relationships.
3. Developing methodologies for analytical separation and characterisation, focusing on MS-based techniques.
4. Enhancing work efficiency and supporting non-standard molecules in line with industry and regulatory expectations.
5. Supporting and mentoring MS users and system owners.
6. Executing assays with attention to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
7. Performing technical reviews of laboratory documentation and assays.
8. Maintaining analytical equipment and supporting technological advancements.
9. Providing training and participating in scientific discussions.

Key requirements include:

1. Hands-on experience in developing and troubleshooting protein analytical methods, including LC, capillary electrophoresis, and LC-MS.
2. Knowledge of protein chemistry and regulatory requirements for characterisation and comparability studies.
3. Ability to analyse data critically, interpret results, and lead root cause analyses.
