Job summary

Hitachi Energy in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to join our HVDC team in a hybrid role combining site work and office duties. You will design secure SCADA/HMI architectures, work with Micro SCADA and Zenon software, and ensure compliance with UK electricity standards while collaborating with customers and suppliers to deliver reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, or Communication Engineering.
• Experience with SCADA/HMI development using Micro SCADA or Zenon.
• Hands-on experience with Micro SCADA and Substation Automation products.
• Understanding UK electricity standards (National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO).
• Knowledge of MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870 and related networks.

• Design and develop secure SCADA/HMI network architecture for AC Substation and HVDC projects.
• Lead discussions with customers and coordinate with suppliers on technical configuration.
• Coordinate site activities with suppliers and maintain stakeholder collaboration.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Design & develop a secure network overall architecture for SCADA / HMI system for the AC Substation and HVDC projects.
• IT infrastructure hands on experience on Routers, Firewalls, Switches, Servers, and workstations with basic networking skills.
• Documentation review from the supplier in the project execution phase.
• Lead discussions with our customers and coordinate with various suppliers and support on the key technical configuration.
• Maintain and build a collaborative environment with all the stakeholders in the project execution.
• Coordinate and plan the site activities in coordination with different suppliers.
• Evaluate and strengthen the security of any connections to the DCS / SCADA / HMI network.
• Lead the automation projects and guide/mentor within the team for the business requirements.
• Work together with our customers, both internally and externally, to ensure our delivery is according to their requirements and standards.

Background

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, or Communication Engineering
• Proven experience within SCADA / HMI application development using Micro SCADA / Zenon SCADA software.
• Hands-on experience on Micro SCADA and Substation Automation Solution & Products.
• Understanding of UK electricity industry standards, especially National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO standards, and type registration/product approval process
• Excellent design capability and experience in the engineering discipline of Control systems.
• High level of understanding of relevant communication protocols and computer interfaces: MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870, and communication and network equipment.
