Job summary

Hitachi ABB Power Grids is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to join our HVDC team in a hybrid role that blends on-site and office work. You will design and develop secure network architecture for SCADA/HMI systems across AC Substations and HVDC projects, and lead technical discussions with customers and suppliers.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in Electrical, Control, or Communications, hands-on Micro SCADA/Zenon experience, and strong knowledge of MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, or Communications Engineering.
• Proven experience within SCADA / HMI application development using Micro SCADA / Zenon SCADA.
• Hands-on experience on Micro SCADA and Substation Automation Solutions.
• Understanding UK electricity industry standards (National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure network architecture for SCADA/HMI systems across AC substations and HVDC projects.
• Lead site and office coordination with suppliers; mentor team members.
• Evaluate and strengthen security of connections to DCS/SCADA/HMI networks.
• Coordinate site activities with suppliers and customers to ensure delivery meets standards.

How you'll make an impact:

Design & develop a secure network overall architecture for SCADA / HMI system for the AC Substation and HVDC projects.

IT infrastructure hands on experience on Routers, Firewalls, Switches, Servers, and workstations with basic networking skills.

Documentation review from the supplier in the project execution phase.

Lead discussions with our customers and coordinate with various suppliers and support on the key technical configuration.

Maintain and build a collaborative environment with all the stakeholders in the project execution.

Coordinate and plan the site activities in coordination with different suppliers.

Evaluate and strengthen the security of any connections to the DCS / SCADA / HMI network.

Lead the automation projects and guide/mentor within the team for the business requirements.

Work together with our customers, both internally and externally, to ensure our delivery is according to their requirements and standards.

Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, or Communication Engineering

Proven experience within SCADA / HMI application development using Micro SCADA / Zenon SCADA software.

Hands-on experience on Micro SCADA and Substation Automation Solution & Products.

Understanding of UK electricity industry standards, especially National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO standards, and type registration/product approval process

Excellent design capability and experience in the engineering discipline of Control systems.

High level of understanding of relevant communication protocols and computer interfaces: MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870, and communication and network equipment.
