Job description

We are looking for a permanent Lead Research Nurse for our Screening unit in Whitechapel, E1.

The role provides effective, professional leadership and maintains oversight of screening/outpatient services at hVIVO, playing a key role in process review and improvement. It ensures that screening/outpatient services are delivered in a cost-effective manner for optimal study delivery and growth. The post holder will act as a leader and organiser to ensure the delivery of screening/study activities in Screening/Outpatient clinics. They will also serve as line manager to the Screening Nurse(s) and Phlebotomists.

The Lead Research Nurse, Screening, offers insights and feedback on study delivery as a subject matter expert and continuously seeks opportunities for improvement, collaboration, and qualitative operational performance.

Alongside other members of the senior clinical team, the Lead Research Nurse ensures staff work according to evidence-based practices, maintaining high standards of care, and that all tasks comply with current regulatory, ICH-GCP standards, and hVIVO SOPs and policies across all clinical sites.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Manage daily workload within the screening/outpatient areas.
  2. Guide and mentor staff in the clinical environment.
  3. Line management of screening nurses and Phlebotomists.
  4. Ensure competence in performing and overseeing daily tasks.
  5. Support Clinical Trainer in supervision, mentoring, assessment, and training of new staff.
  6. Create, review, and ensure completion of site-related documents such as SOPs, logs, and inventory checklists.
  7. Oversee supplies, equipment maintenance, emergency procedures, and staff training.
  8. Drive performance improvements and cross-departmental quality initiatives.

Skills & Experiences

  1. Experience managing high-volume outpatient clinics or Phase I/II clinical trials.
  2. Strong knowledge of clinical supervision.
  3. Experience managing a clinical team.
  4. Competence in recording clinical assessments (vital signs, ECG, phlebotomy) and willingness to learn new skills.
  5. Good GCP knowledge and experience in clinical trials.
  6. Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and foster a positive work environment.
  7. Valid Immediate Life Support certification.
  8. Registration with the NMC.
