Job summary

Network IT Recruitment Limited is partnering with a research-intensive organisation to recruit a Research Infrastructure Engineering Lead in Birmingham. This senior role leads design, operation and strategy for large-scale research computing platforms, including HPC/HTC, storage, cloud and networking.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified or equivalent required.
• Significant experience in infrastructure engineering or research computing environments.
• Strong expertise in HPC/HTC, networking, and private cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, enhancement, and lifecycle management of large-scale research infrastructure platforms.
• Oversee HPC/HTC, cloud, storage, and networking services reliability.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture, integration, and service design.
• Line manage and develop a team of Infrastructure Engineers.
• Lead complex infrastructure projects from design through implementation and operation.
• Develop roadmaps and support long-term investment in research computing technologies.
• Act as escalation point for infrastructure issues and incidents.
• Build relationships with researchers, suppliers and external partners.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation across services.
• Draft technical specifications, risk assessments, and implementation strategies for major initiatives.
• Represent the organisation in national and international research communities.
