Job summary

Framatome UK is seeking a Lead Quality Inspector in Avonmouth to drive inspection activities across projects in a safety‑critical, nuclear environment. You will lead a team of inspectors, ensure compliance with customer specs, and coordinate welded and dimensional inspections in accordance with ITPs and procedures.

The role requires CSWIP Level 2 Welding Inspection, PCN L2 Dye Pen qualification, and 5+ years’ relevant experience, with strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • CSWIP Level 2 Welding Inspection required.
  • PCN L2 Dye Pen qualification or CSWIP equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quality Inspector in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection and fabrication/welding.
  • Knowledge of quality tools and systems (Six Sigma, Lean, EFQA).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and co-ordinate inspection activities per schedules and priorities.
  • Attend daily action briefings to align with other departments.
  • Ensure compliance to customer/product specs via rigorous inspections.
  • Perform visual and dye-penetrant inspection of welds per specs.
  • Conduct dimensional inspection and verify drawings.
  • Coordinate inspectors for incoming materials approvals and testing.
  • Coordinate for in-process production approvals and communicate adjustments.
  • Approve finished products after inspection and manage rework decisions.
  • Maintain surveillance in line with ITPs and document results.
  • Keep measurement equipment calibrated and maintained.
  • Maintain safe, compliant working environment per standards and regulations.

We are seeking a Lead Quality Inspector to join our team in Avonmouth.

This role will support the delivery of key projects within the nuclear sector, working in a safety-focused environment where quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

What You'll Be Doing :

  • Monitoring and co-ordination inspection activities related to their team ensuring prioritisation as per schedules and objectives.
  • Attendance of DAB (Daily Action Brief) meetings to ensure alignment with other departments and priorities.
  • Ensure compliance to customer and product specifications through rigorous inspections.
  • Carry out visual and dye-penetrant inspection of welds in accordance with applicable specifications and procedures.
  • Carry out dimensional inspection of products ensuring compliance to drawing requirements.
  • Co-ordination of Quality Inspectors for approving incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and reporting unacceptable materials.
  • Co-ordination of Quality Inspectors for approving in-process production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to Quality Inspection Manager.
  • Approving finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for rework; confirming rework.
  • Coordinate surveillance and inspection requirements in line with applicable Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Dealing with document inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarising rework and waste.
  • Keeping measurement equipment in working condition by following operating instructions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Profile

What are we looking for?

We're interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • CSWIP Level 2 (3.1) Welding Inspection (essential).
  • PCN L2 Dye Pen or CSWIP equivalent (essential).
  • 5+ years proven relevant experience as a Quality Inspector (essential).
  • Experience in dimensional inspection (essential).
  • Knowledge of Fabrication / Welding (essential).
  • PCN L2 RI/Radiographic Interpretation (desirable).
  • Experience with leading/managing others, utilising good decision making skills.
  • Knowledge of Quality tools and systems e.g. Six Sigma, Lean, EFQA etc.
  • Experience of developing and implementing processes and procedures.
  • Experience leading investigations / problem solving.
  • High level of competence in MS Office products.
  • Previous experience in a highly regulated industry advantageous.
  • Questioning attitude.
  • The ability to work with a low level of supervision and intervention
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including influencing and presenting
  • Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to take responsibility for problems within their own remit and to deliver solutions
