Lead Psychiatrist – Learning Disability (Adult)

Job summary

Powys Teaching Health Board in Wales seeks a senior clinician to provide clinical leadership of the community learning disability service. The post holder will lead, advise and collaborate with medical and managerial colleagues to deliver high quality care and drive teaching and research where possible.

Essential requirements include GMC registration, Specialist Register or imminent CCST, and competence in safeguarding, mental health and capacity acts.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise.
• On Specialist Register/SpR due to obtain CCST within 6 months of interview.
• PALS or APLS provider.
• NALS provider.
• Broad based experience in psychiatry including the Learning Disability.
• Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent).
• Knowledge and participation in CPD.
• Knowledge of vulnerable adult and child protection procedures.
• Competence in the use of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act.
• Able to apply knowledge.
• Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the provision of a first class clinical service.
• Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
• Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
• Undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies.
• Conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board's service plans.
• Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board.
