Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Lead Propulsion Engineer for a permanent role in the aerospace sector, focusing on fixed-wing UAV propulsion from architecture to testing and production support.

You will own powerplant integration challenges across the lifecycle, coordinate with multiple engineering teams, and manage supplier relationships to deliver reliable propulsion solutions. Experience with UAV propulsion and regulatory requirements is valued.

Qualifications

• Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with propulsion systems (engines, motors, propellers or powertrains).
• Knowledge of thermal, structural and installation considerations for powerplants.
• Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines in a complex aircraft environment.
• Experience leading design deliveries within an engineering governance framework.
• Experience supporting testing, development or operation of aircraft systems.
• Experience managing Engineering Change processes.
• Understanding UAV/small aircraft development; piston, hybrid or electric propulsion advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and integration of aircraft propulsion systems, including engines or motors, propellers, mounts and cooling systems.
• Define propulsion requirements, configurations and architectures for current and future aircraft platforms.
• Collaborate with airframe, systems, functional engineering, manufacturing and operations teams to support aircraft integration.
• Manage technical relationships with engine, motor and propeller suppliers.
• Evaluate emerging propulsion technologies and contribute to long-term powertrain strategy.
• Define propulsion development, verification and validation test strategies, including ground, endurance and flight testing.
• Investigate propulsion-related issues, lead root cause analysis and support reliability improvements.
• Provide lifecycle support during production and operation, including maintenance schedules and design updates.
