Based onsite at our Telford Manufacturing facility, the Lead Project Quality Engineer will lead all quality activities and deputise for the Project Quality Manager where required.

You will be responsible for ensuring quality requirements within the programme are adequately deployed and adhered to, working closely and leading key stakeholders in the quality team, eg. Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers and Inspectors

You will have a level of specialist knowledge in at least one area of quality management, and will be expected to be able to adapt and apply their practices in a variety of circumstances, including mentoring and supervision

Shift work & Overtime is not planned but may be required.

Position Duties And Responsibilities


  • Leading Quality Assurance activities to ensure we successfully pass PRR (Production Readiness Review) reference QA elements
  • Forming part of the quality management leadership team within the programme and work with other programme team members to deliver a successful Manufacture Phase project.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the quality related project milestones and contribute in the delivery of customer-related programme milestones within the Manufacture Phase.
  • Leading the Quality Team to implement ‘Progressive Build Assurance strategy’ post PRR and through Manufacture phase.
  • Lead Vehicle ‘sign off’ to customer (vehicle release).
  • Prioritisation of daily PQE activities.
  • Provide full and effective support, in assigned areas of quality activity to the project (i.e. inspection planning, audits, process management, coaching and training).
  • Liaising with Quality Technician Team Lead to guide and support the activities of Quality Technicians with their daily tasks, taking over resolving any quality issues they discover.
  • Support or act as lead auditor in the planning, conducting and reporting of system, process and compliance audits.
  • Facilitate and liaise with key stakeholders and process owners in non-conformance resolution and corrective actions.
  • Coach cross functional teams to independently run functional Stop To Fix / 8D
  • Analysis of data, identify themes and recommend corrective actions, including continual improvement to the Project Quality Manager.
  • Manage, delegate and take responsibility for routine Quality activities without immediate supervision.
  • Manage, delegate and take responsibility for non-routine Quality activities with minimal supervision.
  • Able to access, have clear understanding of and apply the Management System documentation.
  • Support certification activity for both internal and supply chain requirements.
  • Support procurement activities throughout the programme, ensuring the effective implementation of standards and quality processes within the supply chain.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce risk or improve project performance.
  • Sharing best practice across the team and wider business.
  • Provision of accurate relevant data, identify areas of weakness and recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Responsible for root cause analysis and corrective actions .
  • Deputise for Project Quality Manager as required. Working closely and leading key stakeholders in the quality team, eg Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers and Inspectors.
  • Responsible for conducting audits.
  • Responsible for conducting the verification of non-conformances
  • Responsible for supporting the Quality Management in addressing unplanned tasking.


What Qualifications You Should Have


  • You must be Security Cleared or be able to attain and maintain a UK security clearance up to SC level.
  • You will be a Quality Professional, at least lead auditor status or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in leading & deployment of APQP in major projects.
  • Have experience in Heavy Armour vehicle build or Automotive sector.
  • Have extensive experience in quality management and inspection planning.
  • Ideally degree or HNC qualified in an appropriate technical discipline or equivalent experience with relevant leadership and quality experience.
  • Have an extensive working knowledge of Quality / Inspection Planning and Assurance systems; policies, processes, procedures and records
  • Experience of ISO 9001/ EN9100 standards
  • A working knowledge of facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies; 8D, Fishbone, 5 Why, relationship diagrams, six sigma etc. gathering and analyzing evidence cross functionally
  • Relevant quality qualification and/or membership of appropriate professional body
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality conformance principles and application
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and presentational
  • Ability to articulate the Business Stream strategy and objectives
  • Have leadership / facilitation skills and the ability influence working groups
  • Capable driving a detailed programme of work
  • Experience of visual inspection, non destructive testing (NDT), dye penetration testing and dimensional inspection of welded assemblies in accordance with requirements/drawings.
  • Ability to critique and tailor issues and ideas in written reports and presentations ensuring accuracy and clarity of meaning
  • Able to build / improve effective relationships
  • Ability to deliver results
  • Extensive attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using SAP highly desirable
