The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is hiring a Lead Project Engineer/Project Manager, Engineering to join the team. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about applications engineering, with attention to detail and the ability to prepare documentation and diagrams. The role involves coordinating and supporting the design team during project design and execution phases, and assisting the tendering team to ensure that safe, robust, and optimal designs and documentation are produced.

Please note: This position is hybrid (2/3 days working from our central Birmingham office). We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

How you'll make an impact

  • Coordinate the design team across all disciplines.
  • Liaise with project management on engineering budgets and provide forecast cost to complete estimates and justifications for expenditure changes.
  • Manage the programme and interface with planning engineers for design.
  • Provide forecasts for project completion and resource planning.
  • Approve documentation in line with contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate and chair design and hazard reviews.
  • Identify and manage risks across functions, evaluating risks and opportunities, and strategizing mitigation.
  • Support the Project Manager in risk and opportunity assessments and actions.
  • Act as Principal Designer Representative on projects.
  • Work with customers to shape and deliver solutions, seeking feedback and driving improvements.
  • Oversee subcontract creation and management, including supply chain coordination.

Your background

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the electricity supply industry.
  • Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution practices (400kV to 11kV).
  • HNC/HND in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong teamwork, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Understanding of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid standards and drawing practices.
