Job summary

Sweco in the United Kingdom is seeking a Project Design Manager to shape the design and technical direction of water and water recycling projects. You will lead a multidisciplinary design team delivering sustainable, low-carbon solutions while collaborating with project managers and procurement teams to ensure safe, affordable, and future-ready infrastructure.

The role emphasizes designing to high standards, driving innovation, and ensuring alignment with CDM and health & safety requirements,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered status or working towards chartered status is preferred.
• Strong design management experience in water/environmental sectors.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Technical understanding of clean water or water recycling systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and technical delivery of clean water and water recycling projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure).
• Develop and manage Engineering Project Plans (scope, programme, cost, risk, resources).
• Set design approaches and technical standards across disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, process).
• Drive digital design and 3D/BIM-enabled modelling.
• Champion low-carbon, nature-based and whole-life value in designs.
• Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to integrate inputs.
• Ensure CDM and health & safety compliance in all design outputs.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and development for the project design team.
• Work with project managers and construction teams to deliver efficiently and affordably.
