The Opportunity

As a Technical Lead Process Engineer, you will take a key role within the Fluid Systems team—providing technical leadership and oversight on the design and integration of process systems supporting site operation. You’ll use your engineering knowledge, problem-solving ability, and communication skills to steer technical resolution, manage risk, and ensure safe and functional system designs.

This role will be based in Bristol – Hybrid

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  1. Own and lead the system architecture for assigned Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI) fluid systems.
  2. Provide expert guidance on system design, fluid mechanics, thermal-hydraulic modelling, and related technical topics.
  3. Supervise and support system engineers on design queries, calculations, technical direction, and quality assurance.
  4. Perform technical checks of system deliverables, design changes, and documentation.
  5. Promote and embed a strong safety culture within the team.
  6. Drive project integration and stakeholder engagement.
  7. Resolve technical open points and define specifications for design changes.
  8. Lead impact assessments, challenge design modifications, and ensure proper documentation.
  9. Represent Fluid Systems in forums and committees for cross-functional alignment on system performance, safety, and functionality.
  10. Act as an interface between internal teams (system engineering, layout, nuclear safety, I&C, etc.) and external stakeholders (contractors, suppliers, NNB teams).
  11. Monitor progress against engineering milestones and intervene when necessary to mitigate risks and maintain schedule.
  12. Identify delivery risks early and work collaboratively to resolve or escalate.
  13. Contribute to continuous improvement through lessons learned, peer training, and process enhancements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5–10+ years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in a nuclear or large-scale industrial project environment.
  • Proven understanding of thermal-hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and process engineering design.
  • Familiarity with UK regulations and safety standards related to fluid systems or BNI systems.

Additional Desired Experience

  • Proven experience in the nuclear sector.

Role Environment

This role involves working on a nuclear licensed site, where risks include nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals, gases, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high-pressure circuits, steam, and high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided, and all safety protocols must be followed.
