Job summary

Worley is seeking a Lead Principal Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to expand the C&I discipline across projects from concept through commissioning. The role involves leading project and proposal work for process plants in chemicals, oil & gas, and energy sectors.

You will drive instrument engineering deliverables, define standards, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with clients and other disciplines in a global EPC environment.

Qualifications

  • Senior/Lead level experience in Instrument Engineering within large capital projects.
  • Strong communication skills for client liaison and project leadership.
  • Proven ability in budget and schedule control and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Proactive communicator able to lead interfaces across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Act as functional Lead Engineer for projects managed by the C&I Group Manager.
  • Develop Instrument Engineering deliverables across Concept to Commissioning phases.
  • Support development of corporate procedures, standards, and tools for compliance and efficient execution.
  • Lead development and training within the discipline, mentoring graduates and young engineers.

Lead Principal Controls & Instrumentation Engineer
Role Context
Worley is looking to expand their C&I discipline and is looking for a highly experienced candidate to take on the role of Lead Principal Controls & Instrumentation Engineer, this role will involve working on both projects and proposals that will be executed across all phases of projects including Conceptual Studies; Basic; FEED; Detailed Design; Procurement through to Commissioning.

You\'ll Be
  • Work activities will include both project and proposal work where both the technical approach and continuity must be aligned
  • Project work as the functional Lead Engineer for projects as required by the C&I Group Manager
  • Projects and proposals are for process plant and facilities across the Chemical; Oil and Gas; Power and Energy Transition/ New Energy sectors
  • Project work will include development of Instrument Engineering deliverables as required on a project by project basis
Assist The C&I Group Manager In
  • Developing corporate procedures, standards, specifications and the required design tools for compliance with the HSE policy and efficient execution of production work
  • Defining the Development and Training needs for the discipline, support graduate and young Engineer / designer development
You\'ll Have/Be
  • Extensive experience of Instrument Engineering Design, with minimum 5 years in a Senior/Lead role on Medium / Large capital projects from concept to start-up
  • Competent of working within the C&I Discipline of a contracting organisation.
  • Competent to Lead the C&I Discipline interface with other Disciplines
  • Experience of working in a client facing large project group environment
  • Very good proactive communicator as this role will involve liaison with Client Engineers & Project Management
  • Degree qualified for the related discipline
  • Have or working towards Chartered Engineer status as a Member of the Institute of Measurement and Control (IMC) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
  • Proven ability for equipment specification and selection and in ensuring compliance from the suppliers, preferably within an EPC contracting organization.
  • Competent in project execution using selected design tools and techniques.
  • Competent for budget & Schedule control / monitoring and reporting
  • Competent in design safety, constructability
  • Competent in Electrical protection methodologies.
  • Competent in Specification, technical bid analysis and requisitioning of Field Instrumentation and Analysers.
  • Competent in the application, specification and requisitioning of DCS, PLC, and SIS systems, with experience of the system full lifecycle (TUV FS Eng qualification or equivalent preferable).
  • Competent in the Specification / Design / Implementation of Hazardous Area Instrumentation (ATEX).
  • Competent in Instrumentation and Control requirements for Mechanical packages.
  • Competent in P&ID development.
  • Competent in Sizing of flow devices / control valves / relief devices.
Desirable
  • Automation and Control life cycle activities
  • Safety System life cycle activities
  • Fire & Gas systems
  • Familiarity with exSILentia software package preferred
  • Experience of working with and leading global integrated delivery teams is preferred
  • CompEx qualified
