Job summary

Kirklees Council’s Legal Service seeks a lead planning and highways lawyer to advise officers and elected members on major planning matters. You will handle s106/278 agreements, complex planning and highways issues, public inquiries and enforcement or public law matters.

We require a qualified solicitor, barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with substantial senior experience in planning and highways law in England and Wales, and an appetite to develop expertise in public

Qualifications

Qualified solicitor, barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with current practising certificate.
Substantial recent senior experience in planning law and/or highways law in England and Wales.
Ability or aptitude to develop skills in public rights of way and local government law.

Responsibilities

Advise officers and elected members on planning and highways matters, including s106 and 278 agreements.
Handle complex and routine planning and highways advice, public inquiries and enforcement issues.
Provide public law guidance and support within a local government context.
