Lead Pharmacy Technician - Dispensary Services
JOB PURPOSE: To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the dispensary, including organisation of workload and supervision of all staff. To assist with the development and implementation of pharmacy objectives related to dispensary services. To line-manage staff, be an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT), and serve as an Educational Supervisor (ES) for ACPT candidates and pharmacy apprentices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Dispensary Management: Organise and manage dispensary services for inpatients, outpatients, controlled drugs, and clinical trials, ensuring compliance with performance targets. Supervise staff and activities to ensure accuracy and promptness. Address issues as they arise and implement service developments.
- Stock Control and Legislation: Manage stock efficiently, minimize waste, and ensure compliance with legislation regarding storage and supply of medicines. Oversee stock transfers, write-offs, and discrepancy investigations.
- Staff Supervision and Training: Ensure staff receive appropriate induction and training. Supervise staff rotas and provide activity and quality monitoring data. Participate in staff training and development.
- Patient Safety and Customer Service: Ensure safety in waiting areas, dispense prescriptions accurately, and handle complaints and queries professionally. Maintain high standards of customer care.
- Standard Operating Procedures and Policies: Write and update SOPs, participate in policy development, and ensure private and staff sale of medicines adhere to procedures.
- System Management and Data Handling: Manage system access, data entry, and security. Handle intravenous immunoglobulin data and ensure controlled drug security.
- Educational Supervisor Role: Support training of pharmacy candidates, monitor progress, and provide feedback. Maintain CPD and ensure timely completion of training tasks.
- Other Responsibilities: Line manage staff, participate in recruitment, ensure high customer care standards, manage leave authorizations, and participate in pharmacy service coverage during weekends and holidays. Maintain professional development and liaise with other pharmacy staff.
