Job Description

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a driven pharmacist to lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the 12-bed critical care unit, recovery units, and operating theatres at our Bedford Hospital site, which treats a diverse range of medical and surgical patients requiring multiorgan support. You will also be one of our lead pharmacists contributing to the running of our clinical pharmacy service, including line-management and training responsibilities.

We are looking for a dynamic, organized, and motivated pharmacist with experience in various clinical specialties, including critical care, who will be supported to further develop their skills in this lead role.

You must possess the vision, energy, enthusiasm, and influencing skills to deliver the safest possible care to our patients. The ability to engage, motivate, and work closely with medical, nursing, pharmacy, and general manager colleagues is essential.

As a GDE site, we are a digitally advanced trust with electronic prescribing already in place for inpatient prescribing on our wards and critical care unit. Part of your role would include supporting and developing additional digital innovations within critical care at the Trust.

We are committed to personal development, and you will have the opportunity to undertake further training and obtain additional qualifications relevant to this role.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead, plan, and develop an advanced specialist clinical pharmacy service, supervising and role-modeling for other pharmacists, aligned with the priorities of the relevant Clinical Service Line (CSL) and compliant with legislation and best practices.
  • Deliver service KPIs, working closely with other Lead or Specialist Pharmacists.
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical care, including non-medical prescribing where applicable, ensuring risk management and compliance with clinical guidance.
  • Support the CSL and Pharmacy department with risk management, financial management, and clinical governance related to medicines use.
  • Lead clinical pharmacy audits and practice research within critical care, contributing to patient safety projects.
  • Supervise junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistants, and pre-registration pharmacists.
  • Act as a professional role model, demonstrating integrity, ownership, and leadership.
  • Provide expert advice on critical care to pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
Working for our organization

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a population of around 700,000 across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, with hospital sites in Bedford and Luton offering services like A&E, maternity, and paediatrics.

You will join a friendly, high-performing Trust committed to staff wellbeing, with access to high-quality training and development opportunities.

Our state-of-the-art facilities place us at the forefront of healthcare innovation. We are dedicated to delivering excellent patient care using the latest clinical knowledge and technology.

Vacancies may close early if sufficient applications are received. Please apply promptly. All new staff will undergo a probation period of six months. Travel between hospital sites may be required.
