Job description

This is a key role within our organisation and an exciting time to join Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust as we embark on our ePMA journey. The post holder will act as a specialist Lead Pharmacist, providing clinical and technical support, configuration and testing expertise, and superuser status for the electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration System(s) (ePMAs) utilised at WHT.

Main duties of the job
  1. The post holder will support the Principal Pharmacist - ePMA and Digital Medicines Management in implementing ePMA.
  2. Work together with partners such as IT to ensure that the ePMA system is used to support medicines optimisation initiatives.
  3. Support the Principal Pharmacist - ePMA and Digital Medicines Management in developing reports and dashboards to maximise the benefits of the ePMA system and demonstrate its effectiveness in medicines optimisation.
  4. Support and help provide training for ePMA for all staff groups across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
  1. To support the implementation, maintenance, and future development of the ePMA system, working closely with the Pharmacy ePMA team.
  2. To be a superuser for the ePMA system, developing routine housekeeping to ensure optimal performance.
  3. To ensure clear processes and timeframes for changes to the EPMA system that can be measured and reported.
  4. Develop governance arrangements for workflows and drug file templates, ensuring implementation and adherence.
  5. Liaise with the ePMA system supplier for maintenance and development of system functions and upgrades.
  6. Coordinate ePMA system aspects, ensuring incidents are logged, resolved, and escalated as needed.
  7. Support data provision and audits for strategy, service planning, and performance monitoring, including monthly reports on medicines prescribed and administered.
  8. Regularly audit, analyze, and interpret complex data to identify anomalies and ensure data integrity.
  9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in medical, pharmaceutical, and digital health practices.
  10. Undertake projects at the discretion of the Principal Pharmacist - ePMA and Digital Medicines Management.
  11. Facilitate improvements in digital literacy among Pharmacy staff in readiness for ePMA implementation.
  12. Review and grade risk assessments related to ePMA and develop related policies and procedures.
  13. Liaise with clinical staff to ensure effective use of ePMA.
  14. Support error monitoring systems and manage Key Performance Indicators.
