Job description

Applications are invited from suitably experienced Clinical Pharmacists to join the Hospital Pharmacy team as Lead Pharmacist, Controlled Drugs within the major health facility on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

This post will impact practice relating to the management of CDs in all specialties across Guernsey. Reporting to the Chief Pharmacist, you will:

  1. Provide professional advice and expertise to the Accountable Officer (Chief Pharmacist) and the associated team.
  2. Ensure the delivery of the Accountable Officer’s responsibilities in relation to the safe management of controlled drugs.
  3. Deputise for the Accountable Officer when required.

You will liaise with:

  • Prescribing Support Unit Pharmacists, Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Associate Director for Pharmacy, Head and Lead Pharmacy Technicians, and all other Pharmacy staff.
  • Controlled Drug Licensing Officers.
  • Management staff, external agencies, patient groups, Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Medical, Nursing, and Pharmacy staff in primary and secondary care.
  • Members of the MDAG (Medicines Drug Advisory Group).

Please note: Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system but has applied its own salary scale. The Guernsey Band 8A salary range from 1st Jan is £70,723 to £84,752 plus an annual bonus of £1,605 and higher unsocial hours enhancements (36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/Bank Holidays). Annual leave starts at 36 days up to 42 days, with full credit for NHS service for annual and sick leave.

Person requirements:

  • Qualified GPhC-registered Pharmacist.
  • At least three years UK post-registration practice experience, including specific Controlled Drug experience.
  • Broad knowledge of the legal, ethical, and clinical implications of CD use.
  • Evidence of engagement with and participation in clinical governance.
  • Experience in Clinical Audit.
  • Willingness to complete a postgraduate qualification.
  • Willingness to complete a non-medical Prescriber qualification.
