CAITHNESS GENERAL HOSPITAL, WICK

PHARMACY DEPARTMENT

LEAD PHARMACIST - CLINICAL SPECIALTIES (BAND 8A)

(Salary: £62,681 - £67,665)

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically focused and motivated pharmacist to join our team within Caithness General Hospital. This role will be supported by the team lead pharmacist and the two post holders will work closely together, deputising for each other during periods of leave.

Caithness General Hospital is a rural general hospital with 41 beds and provides a range of services including consultant led acute and rehabilitation inpatient care. It has an Emergency Department, a 2 theatre suite, Radiology, Laboratories and a Community Led Midwifery Unit. It also provides satellite services including a Renal Unit and Systemic Therapies service.

The Pharmacy Department provides a range of services including a clinical pharmacy service and technical pharmacy services. These include dispensary services, distribution services and a vaccine centre. The pharmacy department also provides medicines supply and support to the community hospitals in Caithness and Sutherland.

The post provides many opportunities for personal and professional development; you will be able to build on your clinical, leadership, managerial and strategic skills. You will be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, a qualified independent prescriber and have a relevant post-graduate qualification. Candidates should have significant post-registration experience, be good communicators, enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative and able to problem solve and prioritise. You should be able to work unsupervised whilst at the same time being a strong team-player.

As a department, we are committed to our pharmacists becoming credentialed at RPS Core Advanced level, and support for this will be provided in the form of 5 development days per year, a peer support group and a dedicated Lead Education and Training pharmacist for Advanced Practice within the board.

The successful candidate will supervise the training and development of students, pre- and post-registration foundation pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The job will also involve education and training of the wider multi-disciplinary team, including medical students and medical/nursing staff.

This is an exciting time to join our friendly pharmacy team as we work towards transforming the way we approach patient care. As well as developing the clinical roles of pharmacy support staff, Caithness General Hospital has implemented the Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration (HEPMA) system.

Caithness offers the opportunity to live in one of Scotland’s most beautiful unspoilt areas which offers an excellent quality of life, low pollution and crime, a unique culture and amazing scenery allowing for a healthy work-life balance.

This is a permanent full-time post of 37 hours per week which is currently worked Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
