Job summary

Imperium Resourcing is seeking a Payroll Team Leader for a large London Local Authority to take day-to-day responsibility for a high-volume payroll service. The role supports ~6,500 employees and ~8,000 monthly pension payments, with a hands-on leadership focus.

You will lead a team of experienced payroll professionals, manage the end-to-end payroll cycle, and ensure payments are accurate, compliant and delivered on time in a busy public sector environment.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in a large or complex payroll environment.
• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory deductions.
• Experience supervising payroll staff and allocating work.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of Senior Payroll Officers.
• Own the end-to-end payroll run and ensure timely payments.
• Provide guidance on complex payroll queries and calculations.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC, PAYE, NI and pension regulations.
• Monitor accuracy, identify errors and implement corrective actions.
• Drive process improvements to improve efficiency and service quality.
