Job summary

Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) is seeking an experienced Lead Outdoor Learning Instructor to deliver our alternative learning programmes across SOLD centres, with a primary base at one location. The salary is £31,659 per annum pro rata for a 36‑hour week on a 12‑month fixed-term contract.

You will work with groups of children and young people, using the outdoors to support development, academic skills and employability, while maintaining health and safety and high-quality

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering outcome-led programmes with children and young people.
  • Experience with SEN and at-risk learners.
  • Proven ability to manage day-to-day logistics and staff inductions.
  • Experience reviewing and providing written feedback to professional bodies.
  • National governing body qualifications relevant to the role.

Are you experienced in facilitating learning in the outdoors? Do you want to make a difference to young people’s lives? Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) are delivering alternative learning programmes to children and young people in Surrey.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team as we recruit for a Lead Outdoor Learning Instructor to help deliver our Alternative Learning provision.

About the Job

The salary for this position is £31,659 per annum pro rata (based on a 36-hour working week). This is a 12-month fixed-term position.

  • High Ashurst - Mickleham, Dorking, Surrey, RH5 6DQ
  • Henley Fort and Angel Blue - Guildford, Surrey, GU2 4RH

Staff are required to work across all of SOLD's centres with a primary base at one centre.

About the role

As an experienced Outdoor Learning Instructor, you will be working with a range of groups and individuals on our alternative learning programmes. These are outcome-based learning programmes to support our customer in areas of personal and social development, academic curriculum and employability skills, using the outdoors as a tool for learning. Using reviewing and reflection tools to ensure our customers benefit positively from participating in outdoor learning.

At SOLD we offer our visitors carefully facilitated bespoke programmes in the outdoors, creating positive learning outcomes and experiences.

What are we looking for?

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and answers to the questions below will clearly evidence the following skills and align with Surrey County Council behaviours :

  • Experience of outcome led programme delivery, and of working with additional needs, Special Educational Needs (SEN), and children and young people at risk of exclusion from school.
  • Experience of managing day to day logistics and resources, supporting staff with inductions, training, and ongoing support; ensuring high quality health and safety working conditions and delivery.
  • Experience of supporting customers in an alternative learning provision or similar setting.
  • Experience of reviewing and providing written feedback to other professional bodies.
  • National governing body qualifications relevant to the role.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out during recruitment.
