DiPOLE Systems is hiring an Optical Design Engineer to lead the optical architectures for our next-generation laser systems. You will work hands-on with a multidisciplinary team, owning key design decisions and ensuring robust, manufacturable products ready for deployment.

You will collaborate with scientists and mechanical engineers, report to the CTO, and contribute to productisation, documentation and supplier engagement in a university/Didcot research environment.

Qualifications

• Strong optical design experience; Zemax Optic Studio preferred or equivalents.
• Experience of geometric optics including aberrations, MTF, stray light and ghost analysis.
• Experience of physical optics (diffraction, coherence, Gaussian beams).
• Experience of optics tolerancing, optimisation, and sensitivity analysis.
• Experience taking complex optical designs from prototype through build/test toward repeatable manufacture.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams and pragmatic trade-offs with clear communication.
• Clear technical communication skills and documentation habits.

Responsabilités

• Lead optical design of advanced laser systems from concept through to build, test, manufacture and deployment.
• Own critical design decisions across performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability.
• Plan and execute stray-light, ghost and aberration analysis to de-risk designs.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to define requirements and deliver integrated subsystems.
• Shape productisation: modularity, serviceability, documentation and supplier engagement.
• Mentor and support other designers as the team grows.
