The department is fast paced with lots of KPIs; you will review data and ensure compliance with processes and procedures. You will plan for upcoming key trading activities and events by working closely with the rest of the store leadership team. You will regularly take full accountability for the store overnight, role modelling and coaching for high standards and efficiency across the store. You will manage people, including pay and scheduling routines, training, communication, and employee relations activities such as managing performance, absence, and disciplinary actions.

Responsibilities
  • Direct a small team of managers to deliver the online delivery operation of the store and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Review data and ensure compliance with processes and procedures in a fast-paced KPI-driven environment.
  • Plan for upcoming key trading activities and events in collaboration with the store leadership team.
  • Take full accountability for the store overnight, modelling high standards and driving efficiency.
  • People management, including pay, scheduling, training, communication and employee relations (performance, absence, disciplinaries).
  • Coordinate with online teams; early morning picking for deliveries typically from 04:00 to 08:00.
What makes a great Lead Online Manager
  • A passionate leader who is consistently ambitious for customers and colleagues, growing the team to do the same.
  • Experience of managing managers in a fast-paced, performance-focused environment.
  • Comfortable managing alone in the absence of more senior management.
  • Driven to deliver high performance with a focus on efficiency and engagement.
  • Confident in the use of data, understanding and interpreting KPIs or other performance indicators, with experience of improving them.
  • Puts inclusivity at the heart of what they do and uses this to build an inclusive team and working environment.
  • Can manage disciplinary, performance issues or other employee relations matters (up to dismissal).
  • Experience leading large teams in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with evidence of developing leaders and building high-performing teams.
  • Track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences across complex operations, with evidence of delivering these through your team.
  • Proven success in delivering and improving KPIs across sales, stock availability, customer satisfaction and colleague engagement.
  • Experience handling sensitive and complex people matters with confidence, fairness and sound judgement.
  • Leadership experience in an operational environment (retail, hospitality, or food service) where you have owned departmental performance and led the store in the absence of senior leadership.
  • Evidence of leading change—rolling out new ways of working, embedding new systems, or shifting team mindsets.
Benefits
  • Discount card: 10% discount at Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu and Habitat after four weeks. This increases to 15% discount at Sainsbury's every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day.

  • Wellbeing support, including emotional support, counselling, legal and financial advice.
  • Colleague networks to support personal and career development.
  • Cycle to Work scheme to hire a bike and cycling equipment with tax and NI savings.
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more.
