It is an exciting time to join us, as you will play a significant role in a passionate and committed team, making a real difference in peoples lives. Our Housing Assistance Shared Service is committed to supporting residents across Stafford Borough and South Staffordshire District.

We are looking for a dynamic and professional Lead Officer to join us to manage the high-performing Housing Assistance (Disabled Facilities Grants) service; a supportive and collaborative team which is proven to be efficient, effective and valued.

A high performing service

You will play a crucial role leading the team who are providing disabled adaptations such as level access showers, ramps, stair lifts, kitchen adaptations and extensions to residents homes. We provide advice, assistance, and support to residents who need adaptations and empower them to participate in the home adaptation design process.

Each customer has a single point of contact throughout their journey; we begin with the assumption that each individual is best placed to judge their own wellbeing. We take account of residents views and wishes to understand the needs experienced by the person, their family and carer/s, whilst working to national supporting policies and the latest professional guidelines.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grant legislation; experience in leadership and management, with the ability to motivate a high performing team; great customer service; and excellent organisational skills.

This Role Will Involve

Overseeing the complete DFG process, from receiving referrals to project completion, ensuring efficiency, quality and safety.

Leading procurement processes, including tendering key contracts, contractor management and ensuring value for money.

Developing and implementing systems and processes that drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

You will manage budgets, resources and timelines, monitoring and influencing key performance indicators to meet challenging targets.

Cultivating a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and enthusiasm within the team.

Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, including contractors, healthcare professionals, and local authorities.

Ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and local government standards.

Our Lead Officer should be able to demonstrate abilities and competency in the following areas:

Proven experience in managing a team, ideally within the public sector or social care environment.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Expertise in running procurement processes, including tendering, supplier negotiations, and contract management.

Excellent communication skills, with a professional and approachable manner.

Enthusiastic and results-driven, with a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for vulnerable individuals.

In-depth knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grant process or similar funding mechanisms.

A problem-solving mindset, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Ability to work jointly with professionals including Occupational Therapists, architects and local authority staff for a joined-up multi-agency service.

You must hold a full UK Driving Licence

This role is working in a regulated activity and will be subject to a Basic DBS disclosure.

In return, we can offer you opportunities for professional development and working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance. These include flexible home working (dependent on service need) and a holiday allowance of 27.5 days plus bank holidays.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of training and developmental opportunities is also offered.

If you are a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organised individual with a passion for supporting individuals to live independently, we would love to hear from you.
