The Role

The main purpose of the Headache Nurse Specialist is to provide a high quality easily accessible, timely clinical service for patients requiring specialist management of headache, primarily Medication overuse headache, chronic migraine and chronic daily headache.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

Delivery of a safe, effective, nurse led service for patients receiving specific treatment for headache, e.g. Greater Occipital Nerve block, Botulinum injection, DHE infusion.

Provide a responsive telephone helpline for patients with chronic headache. The telephone advice line will be utilised by patients throughout Lanarkshire for advice. The post holder is responsible for evaluating the quality of advice given and also ensuring it is responsive to patients and professionals.

The postholder will provide counselling regarding contraception and migraine, pregnancy and the use of medication.

Interpret headache research and ensure all practice has a nationally accepted evidence base.

Develop, deliver and contribute to multidisciplinary specialist education and training programmes to promote a wider understanding of headache management in the primary and secondary healthcare setting.

Promote and advise on health and lifestyle activities for patients, carers, healthcare professionals and the general public.

What we'll need you to bring
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality.
  • Advanced Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality.
  • Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement.
  • Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate and influence others and work using own initiative
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and effective time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology
  • Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence – Community Post
