Qualifications

Job description

Job summary: We have an exciting opportunity for Lead Nurse at our Integrated Urgent Primary Care (IUPC) Service. The post holder will provide expert and innovative leadership to IUPC Team.

The Lead nurse will be expected to work on site at least 4 days in UTC and should be available for meetings with partners/stakeholders. This job is full time 37.5 hours.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead the nursing team undertaking face to face assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who are streamed into the IUPC.
  • Provide supervision/development of junior members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To utilise clinical decision-making skills, in line with the agreed IUPC criteria.
  • To work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Operations to achieve the Key Performance Indicators and support the implementation of improvement plans.
  • Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection prevention and control utilising relevant audits within their clinical area.
  • Provide strong leadership to the team acting as a professional role model; ensuring evidence-based practice is delivered, and ensuring patient safety and quality of care is enhanced.

Job responsibilities:

  • To be a clinical expert within the field of advanced practice in Urgent Care.
  • To have managerial responsibility for the team of nursing practitioners overseeing the development and the progression of the team as a whole.
  • To work closely and autonomously with other members of the Urgent Care team and wider health care stakeholders.
  • To help plan, organise and participate in the teaching, training and supervision of the team of advanced clinical practitioners.
  • In addition to these duties the post holder will develop and deliver training, act as a mentor/assessor to a variety of health care professional staff gaining competencies in this varied speciality.
  • To deliver the advanced clinical practitioner roles in conjunction with the service lines requirements and the changing non-consultant workforce to ensure satisfactory personnel are available to deliver safe and effective care.
  • To provide leadership and management for the nursing team in the UTC.
  • To develop a flexible workforce to meet the ever changing needs of the service within a managed financial envelope.
  • To have undertaken the independent prescribing module and be able to be competent to practice as an independent prescriber.
  • Be aware of own professional boundaries, always working within ones appropriate sphere of competence and maintaining patient safety at all times.
  • To deliver the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda working within the GPCG Clinical Governance Framework to ensure that nursing and associated clinical services deliver quality, performance and operational directives.
Person Specification

Knowledge Essential:

  • Minor Illness/Injury course.

Experience Essential:

  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, working at a senior level within A&E or Walk-in Centre/Extended Hub/General Practice.

Qualifications Essential:

  • Registered First Level Nurse (Adult)
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
